What is Prader-Willi Syndrome?

For those with PWS

For Brothers & Sisters

This page is for brothers and sisters to add their comments.
If you have an e-mail address, it's also a place to find a cyber-pal.

Our first contribution is from 17 year old John, who lives in the Midlands and has a 23 year old sister with PWS.

I'd like to start by saying that people haven't forgotten you, they just need to spend a little less time with you and a little more time for your sis or brother. So don't get really mad when you have pages of homework or need tips on how to do things, be patient, amuse yourself with something else and your time will come.

I know it seems like they are getting all the attention but hey, that's life. Living with someone with PWS is very difficult, that I know, but it can be made easier. Always listen to what they have to say, it can be difficult, but by doing this you will gain their trust, maybe!

Don't shut them out when your friends are round. I have done this and not liked the look that my sister had, she probably felt very left out. I still feel guilty. Explain to your friends about the situation, but you don't have to tell everyone if you don't want to.

These steps will help your household become a brighter and better place, for all of you. There, that's how life can be made easier.

P.S. Try not to eat those larger than life chocolate bars in front of your brother or sister.

Email Penpals wanted for USA student to help with project

We received the following email from the USA:

I have made a website on PWS at www.geocities.com/pwsyndrome and the next part of the project involves making some sort of device. This device should be useful to the caregiver or the person with PWS. As far as knowing what type of device would be useful, I need to find penpals with firsthand experience. I have not been able to find any as of yet to keep an ongoing communication with. Instead of having a penpal by mail, I would prefer to have a penpal through email (part of the requirements). Thank you very much for any way you can help!

Sincerely,

Connie
