Helen & John Perrin start a letter magazine.

First Group Meeting of Parents

Association becomes registered Charity
1st National Conference
1st Newsletter (4 pages) edited by Jan Williams

1982 May

Dr Bernard Laurance becomes President.
2nd Newsletter is published, 12 pages long.
One letter notes that there are 102 PW children and adults, of whom only 18 are over the age of 20.
The first leaflets become available.

1983 May

Lady Butler of Saffron Walden becomes patron.

1984 May
1984 Sep

The 100 Club (now the 200 Club) starts.
First PWSA Christmas cards go on sale, designed by Ann Martin, a person with PWS

Prof. Victor Dubowitz joins PWSA as Vice-President
6 additional Vice-Presidents join the PWSA
Ralph Williams resigns as 1st Hon Chairman of the PWSA and is awarded Honorary Life Membership.
He is succeeded by his father-in-law, Roger Alderman.

Rosemary Johnson takes over as Hon Secretary.
Princess Michael of Kent becomes Royal Patron.
Jan becomes an Honorary Life Member, but stays on as Newsletter Editor.
Jackie Waters sends out the first of many questionnaires: this is to parents of adults.

1988 May

300 families in the PWSA.
The 1st word-processed issue of the newsletter.
£500,000 appeal launched.

1989 Feb

Over £60,000 is raised at the Old King Cole Ball hosted by Julien Courtauld

First Handbook for Parents of Teenagers and Adults with PWS, written by Jackie Waters.
First training day for professionals is held at Castle Priory, Oxfordshire.
Alex Williams joins the PWSA as Development Director and Fundraiser.
Roger Alderman retires as Hon Chairman.
He is succeeded by Julien Courtauld.

Rosemary Johnson and Jackie Waters become paid officers, working on a part-time basis.
Jackie Waters takes over as Newsletter Editor.
1st Edition of PWS Pages as a Supplement.
Mike Holloway takes over from Mostyn Williams (Ralph's father) as Hon Treasurer.
1st International PWS Organisation Conference in the Netherlands.

Newsletter makes its debut in its present day format.
Handbook for Parents of Younger Children, written by Jackie Waters, is published.

Virginia Bottomley, then Secretary of State for Health, visits the Annual Conference in Farnham.

First PWSA(UK) Office set up
Nearly 500 family & 300 professional members

First AGM for teenagers and adults with PWS held at Coventry conference

2000 Jan

Narinder Sharma appointed as first Chief Executive

2001 Feb

Caroline Riley appointed as new Care and Regional Groups Worker. Kendra Mitchell becomes first staff member working specifically for people with PWS, funded by Diana Memorial Fund.

2002 April

The Association moves to new tailor-built offices, funded by the Active Community Unit. New part-time administrators appointed, seven staff now work for the Association.

2002

The Assocation celebrates its 21st Birthday with the membership taking part in a record-breaking amount of fund-raising.

2003 Feb

Two field workers appointed to support parents and carers in South East and North West England. Funded by a Home Office grant.
